National Director: Marjorie Jobson

Marjorie JobsonThe National Director of Khulumani Support Group, Dr Marjorie Jobson, was appointed in January 2006. She is a medical graduate who specialized in anaesthesia.

She became involved in human rights advocacy as co-chairperson of the Pretoria Black Sash. She visited political prisoners on death row as a member of the Black Sash Campaign against the Death Penalty. Through these visits she befriended Mr Duma Kumalo, one of the Sharpeville Six who had been sentenced to death on the basis of false testimony, extracted under torture.

When Khulumani Support Group was institutionalized, she was approached by Mr Kumalo in his capacity as a founder member of the organisation, to make herself available as a Board Member. She remained actively involved with the organization in various capacities including as former Chairperson of the Board.

She has assisted the organization with strategic planning and with fundraising over several years. She serves as a part-time Commissioner on the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities.

She is an associate of the Institute for Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Pretoria and a Board Member of The People's Agenda, a nonprofit organisation focused on facilitating local economic development through building working local economies using rights-based programmes.
