Khulumani welcomes the launch of Corruption Watch

Written by

Khulumani welcomes the launch on 26 January 2012 of Corruption Watch, a COSATU-spearheaded initiative to tackle the scourge of corruption that is having devastating impacts on the meeting of the urgent needs of the least resourced citizens of South Africa.

Khulumani echoes the call of Public Protector that the critical element in confronting corruption is the empowerment of citizens to expose corruption in the public service wherever it is happening.

Khulumani members have succesffully taken action to end practices such as the handing of tenders for services to state hospitals to the relatives of the hospital management. There is still much to be done.

You can join this struggle by signing the pledge on the Corruption Watch website at www.corruptionwatch.org.za

The Corruption Watch pledge:

  • I pledge to be a responsible and honest citizen and
  • neither pay nor take bribes;
  • obey the law and encourage others around me obey the law and to treat public resources respectfully;
  • neither abuse any public money entrusted to my care, nor any position I hold as a public servant, and
  • act with integrity in all my dealings with government; and
  • always remember that public resources are intended for the benefit of the public, not for private gain.
