| The TRC failed to address the consequences of political violence and human rights violations for many people. 90% of Khulumani's members who are gross human rights survivors, were not included in the processes of the TRC.
For some this was due to a technical era; others had their claims rejected; others need to appeal apparent mistakes that were made in the administrative processes of the TRC. |

In the post -TRC dispensation Khulumani shifted its focus from responding to the requirements of the TRC to addressing the felt needs of its members.The Needs Assessment Surveys provide the organisation with sound empirical data and exceptionally detailed and valuable information about the life circumstances of Khulumani's members. |

Khulumani Support Group has been organising opportunities for its members to take part in Healing of Memories processes, based on the work of Father Michael Lapsley.
Healing of Memories workshops begin the process of overcoming the isolation in which most victims survive as a result of their trauma and the disruption of their systems of attachment and belonging.

The majority of our members are unemployed women who live in rural areas. As victims of gross violations, they have not yet fully integrated into mainstream society. Community reparations programmes need to be ongoing, sustainable and adequate to restore the competence of those individuals who were deliberately disempowered through their experiences.

Khulumani membership, especially in regions that never received much support from the TRC, have expressed the need to engage in a reconciliation processes between political factions within their communities.
The communities most effected are those of Richmond (KZN), Kroonstad (Free State), and East Rand (Gauteng), where intolerance between ANC and IFP created enormous hostilities amongst community members. |

| Khulumani currently has provincial offices in 7 provinces. Mpumalanga and Northern Cape are the remaining 2 provinces in which Khulumani has not officially established its presence although it has active members in these provinces. For national reconciliation and healing to occur throughout South Africa, Khulumani's work must be extended to these regions.

Khulumani has produced four theatre productions thus far. They have been developed in such a way that opportunities are provided to the audiences to tell their own stories and to have these stories acknowledged in the process. This has been such a powerful tool for healing and reconciliation.
