Khulumani membership, especially in regions that never received much support from the TRC, have expressed the need to engage in a reconciliation processes between political factions within their communities.
The communities most effected are those of Richmond (KZN), Kroonstad (Free State), and East Rand (Gauteng), where intolerance between ANC and IFP created enormous hostilities amongst community members.
Khulumani membership, especially in regions that never received much support from the TRC, have expressed the need to engage in a reconciliation processes between political factions within their communities.
Some processes have already been facilitated through Khulumani Support Group such as that on the East Rand and that in the Natal Midlands where sentenced prisoners were accompanied back to the communities where they had caused harm, including killings, so that they could explain to these communities what they had done and could ask forgiveness for their actions, before being returned to prison.
Training will be provided at the level of the national steering committee meeting, to equip Khulumani facilitators with further skills to facilitate these processes to restore and to build peaceful relationships between individuals and ultimately to encourage and enhance community development.
