On Friday, 11 November 2011, the National Planning Commission unveiled its National Development Plan that provides an overarching framework for eliminating poverty and reducing inequality by 2030.
Khulumani notes that both Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan and National Planning Minister, Mr Trevor Manuel, concur that the high levels of poverty, inequality, unemployment and food security in South Africa, pose some of the greatest threats to the country's long-term stability.
The National Planning Commission has called for feedback on this plan before the plan is adopted by the President in three month's time.
