Dear Sir, The members of Khulumani Support Group, the membership organisation of struggle veterans who lived at the frontlines of the resistance to apartheid oppression within the country and who suffered gross violations of their human rights as a result of the stands they made for justice and the achievement of democracy in South Africa, honour you as our respected President in whom we have placed our trust to facilitate the resolution of the issues that remain outstanding for our members.

The 2nd Level of Apartheid

Written by
A poem by Mr Floris Brown

How do we crush the 2nd Level of apartheid? When its big smiles with an arm length distance

How do we destroy the 2nd Level of apartheid? Farm workers chased straight into squatter camps

How do we extinguish the 2nd Level of apartheid? When the "Dop" system is still alive and in place

How do we freeze the 2nd Level of apartheid? Education becomes: "Right of admission reserved"

How do we guillotine the 2nd Level of apartheid? When asked: "What are you people doing in our neighbourhood"

How do we handcuff the 2nd Level of apartheid? When front covers festivals remain 99% {...} 1% {...}

How do we stop this inhumane 2nd Level of apartheid? Reach out. Touch somebody's heart. STOP! The heartache! ...

Officially Offside, a movement of young people who associate with Khulumani and its advocacy agenda, have produced the attached comic art exploration of the meaning and impact of a history of torture on intergenerational relationships.

This week's comic art poster raises important questions about who carries the burden of histories and interpersonal impacts of torture.

Khulumani Welcomes New Thinking on HIV Prevalence

Written by

Khulumani Welcomes the Queries Raised by Former President of the HIV Clinician’s Society, Dr Francois Venter, in the recent A J Orenstein Memorial Lecture, HIV and Sexual Transmission in Southern Africa: Looking in the Wrong Jeans? - 25 November 2011.

Dr Francois Venter, former president of the HIV Clinician’s Society recently delivered the A J Orenstein 2011 Memorial Lecture in which he raised some critical and as yet unanswered questions about HIV and sexual transmission in Southern Africa including suggesting that popular wisdom that HIV is spread through promiscuity, may not be entirely correct.
