Mrs Burton was one of the individuals who contributed funds into The President's Fund in the expectation that this fund would provide assistance to victims of apartheid crimes in line with the comprehensive recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

She has expressed dismay at the failures of the administrators of this fund to embrace measures to provide reparations to victims and survivors of apartheid gross human rights violations through an open and continuing process.
