Khulumani welcomes today's judgement in the Gauteng North Court, resulting in an interdict against President Kgalema Mohlantle. The president was ordered by the court not to grant any pardons and victims were given the right to have access to the list of names of applicants for presidential pardons.
This judgement represents a massive victory in vindicating the rights of victims to participate in all processes that concern them. It is also a victory for transparency.
We hope this judgement will serve as a turning point in how government interacts with victims. The incoming administration has an obligation to be less hostile to the needs and rights of victims of apartheid.
