| | The South African No Torture Consortium (SANTOC) was launched on 26 June 2008, International Day in Support of Survivors of Torture. The Consortium aims improve the impact and effectiveness of the torture rehabilitation sector. SANTOC is working to build a strong advocacy movement to pressure the South African government to criminalise torture and to adopt and ratify OPCAT, the Optional Protocol on the Convention Against Torture. |

Khulumani members acquitted of illegal gathering charge |

A Victory photo taken outside the Cape Town Magistrates Court on 14 May 2008. The 21 Khulumani members, represented by Charles Abraham's brother, Marius Abrahams, were acquitted on charges of illegal gathering on the opening of parliament - 8 Feb 2008. The demands contained in the memorandum were: "Stay out of the lawsuit", "Minister Mabandla withdraw the affidavit from US Court" and "Speed up community reparations", "consult Khulumani" |
