Dr Pheko was a representative of Victims of Apartheid and Colonialism at the United Nations in New York and at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva. As a Member of Parliament and as leader of the Pan Africanist Congress in Parliament between 1999 and 2009, Dr Pheko was willing to raise questions posed by Khulumani and its membership in the National Assembly. Khulumani deeply appreciates the role played by Dr Pheko at that time.
Dr Pheko is a historian, political scientist, lawyer, theologian and author of twelve books. His books deal with the topics of African culture, politics, history and Christianity. Those related specifically to the apartheid era include:
- March 21: Day of Destiny Soaked in Blood;
- Apartheid: The Story of a Dispossessed People; and
- The True History of Sharpeville Must Be Told.
These titles present little known perspectives on our history and are an inspiration to Khulumani as it continues its efforts to record and memorialize less well-known histories of the struggle in South Africa.
Copies of Dr Pheko’s books can be bought from Xarra Bookshop in Newtown, Johannesburg (011 403 0947) or from Tokolho Freedom Publishers (076 373 0461).
